Privacy Policy

OverView is a macOS application made by Memetic Research Laboratories LLC (“we,” “us”). OverView is designed to work primarily on your own Mac. We do not run accounts for you, we do not sell your data, and OverView contains no advertising, analytics, or third-party tracking. This policy explains what stays on your device and the few cases where data is sent to a service you choose to use.

Information stored on your device

The following are kept locally on your Mac (in the app’s Application Support folder, with secrets in the macOS Keychain) and are not transmitted to us:

  • Documents you scan with the camera, and the text recognized from them.
  • Message content OverView gathers from the Apple Messages database on your Mac (PDFs, images, and text), when you enable that feature and grant Full Disk Access.
  • Contacts used only to show a sender’s name in place of a phone number. Contact lookups happen on your device and contact details are never sent off your Mac.
  • Your ledger entries, QuickBooks account mappings, search index, and app settings.
  • API keys and connection tokens, stored in the Keychain.

Speech recognition (when you use push-to-talk) and text-to-speech run on your device. Your microphone audio is processed locally and is not sent to us or to any third party.

Information sent to third-party services you choose

Some features are optional and, when you use them, send data directly from your Mac to the relevant provider. We never receive this data ourselves.

AI reading and analysis (OpenRouter)

When you ask OverView to analyze, summarize, describe, or answer a question about a document or message, the relevant image and/or text is sent to the OpenRouter API (openrouter.ai), which routes the request to an AI model provider. You supply your own OpenRouter API key.

For document scans, OverView detects and redacts personal information (such as names, addresses, and account numbers) on your device before the image or text is sent for AI processing. Even so, content you choose to send for AI processing leaves your Mac and is handled under OpenRouter’s and the model provider’s privacy terms. If you prefer not to use cloud AI, simply don’t add an API key — on-device reading and large-print features still work.

QuickBooks Online (Intuit)

If you connect your own QuickBooks Online company, OverView exchanges accounting data with Intuit’s API (quickbooks.api.intuit.com): the expense and ledger entries you approve, and the reports (such as Profit & Loss) you request. Authorization uses Intuit’s OAuth 2.0; access and refresh tokens are stored in your Keychain. This exchange is governed by Intuit’s privacy policy. You can disconnect at any time, which revokes the token and clears it from your Mac.

Speech model download (Hugging Face)

The first time you use push-to-talk, OverView downloads an on-device speech-recognition model from Hugging Face. This transfers only the model files to your Mac; no personal data is sent.

What we collect

Nothing. Memetic Research Laboratories operates no servers that receive your documents, messages, financial data, contacts, or usage. Beta download links are delivered by email through our distribution system; that system stores only a hashed download token and a hashed form of your email address to gate the download.

Your choices and control

  • Cloud AI is off until you add an OpenRouter API key; remove the key to stop it.
  • QuickBooks is off until you connect; Disconnect revokes and clears the tokens.
  • Message ingestion is off until you enable it and grant Full Disk Access.
  • You can erase all local data from Settings → Diagnostics → Reset all data.

Children

OverView is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from them.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as OverView evolves. Material changes will be reflected here with a new “Last updated” date.
